Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Hybrid electric vehicles represent an emerging market that is expected grow to $2 billion by 2009. Hybrid electric vehicles combine the benefits of gasoline engines and electric motors and offer a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional automotive technology. Performance requirements for hybrid electric vehicles include rapid charge and discharge, high power output for acceleration, long useful life, minimal maintenance and low cost.

The rapid charge/discharge capabilities of our PbC® battery fit the requirements for hybrid electric vehicle applications. We believe our proposed products will offer comparable performance at a significantly lower cost when compared to other advanced battery technologies. Our PbC® battery will also offer more energy than advanced supercapacitors at a fraction of their cost.

Design Features of Axion's PbC® Technology

Energy Gap

Other advanced battery technologies are expensive. Advanced supercapacitors offer higher power but far lower energy. Our PbC® technology can fill the gap in the energy/cost profile.

Sustainability

Our new PbC® battery can be recycled in existing lead acid battery recycling facilities. This allows the lead, plastic, and acid to be reused in new PbC® Batteries.

Manufacturability

PbC® batteries have been designed to be manufactured in any of the dozens of existing lead acid battery facilities in the US as well as the hundreds of others world wide. This eliminates the need for hundreds of millions of dollars in capital to build new advanced battery facilities in the US that do not currently exist. Since existing equipment will be utilized new investments will not be required to manufacture our products.
