The lead-acid battery has been around for 150 years and little has changed about its basic chemistry in that century and a half. Its longevity stems from its rugged reliability -- if not durability -- and low-cost, really low cost. So, it's really way past time that lead be given a new lease on life, so to speak, by someone coming along with a way to improve on it, while retaining its core qualities.
